Stained Glass Project, Copelands Care Home, Millisle, Co. Down

Before lockdown I was asked to create a stained glass window for the worship space of a new care home for residents with dementia.

There were lots of stops and starts with this project due to Covid but we were finally able to install the window in August 2021.

The coastal site was a children’s home in a former incarnation so as a nod to this I included some floating daisy petals in the design to represent the children and also some bright yellow seeds as a symbol of renewal and new beginnings.

The overall design is abstract but based on forms found in nature with the central circle creating a sense of sanctuary and a safe haven.

Although abstract in design the window is created using traditional stained glass techniques including acid etching and silver stain and incorporates beautiful mouth blown glass from Germany and the UK.
